Welcome back to our series on RSS feeds for the newbie. In past articles we covered some of the very basic principles of RSS Feeds and syndication and we are going to continue that them in today's article about who uses RSS Feeds and their popularity. So who uses News Feeds for syndication? Well, just about everyone. There are two basic sides to this story. You are going to have one side constantly creating feeds and another side constantly subscribing to these feeds.
Recent use of the RSS Feed system has literally exploded. Large news organizations were the first to jump on this sensation, and companies such as BBC, The New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, USA Today - you name it, they all use the RSS Feed system for syndication and to learn about new news happening when it happens. Since RSS Feeds are also called news feeds, there's no surprise that they are such a big deal for news organizations. RSS Feed submission has grown large enough that companies such as yahoo are creating their own RSS readers.
To get a real idea of just how many feeds there out there, check out some of the top RSS directories. The directories list feeds so that anyone can subscribe to them at any time. Some site don't require that you have a reader so you can read them live on the site while others act like a phone book or a more of a directory that you need your reader for.
So with that, you should have a decent enough idea who uses News Feeds and what they use them for. More importantly I hope that you now have a better idea of what you can use News Feeds for and decide if you want to create your own or maybe find some that you would like to subscribe to on a regular basis.
